Mother Nature is decked out in her gorgeous spring clothes. She wears special colors now, ones that you see only at this time of year. Her trees are dressed in a yellowy-green suit that dazzles in the sunlight. On her feet, she wears shoes adorned with feathery plumes of a deeper grassy green. Her hat is covered in plum pink petals that flutter gently when the spring breeze blows. For jewelry, she has chosen butter yellow and vibrant red flowers. Mother Nature is a knock-out.
Seeing Mother Nature all dressed up for spring reminds me of when I was little. Every year, we made a special pilgrimage downtown to the department store to select a new dress, coat, hat, shoes, and purse for dressing up on Easter Sunday. It was a task we took very seriously because we wanted to look extra special for when Grandma and Grandpa came to visit. I still remember the soft light grey coat and the little white straw purse decorated with pink posies that I carried one Easter long ago.
Spring. Re-birth. Growth. A time to put on our best attire. As Lent comes to a close, and we look forward to Easter Sunday, consider this. What about our hearts? What will they be wearing this spring? Wouldn’t we all look marvelous if we clothed our hearts with more kindness and patience, and deeper love and understanding?
